Barista Pro Shop Has Gone To The Dogs!

Seventeen years ago I saved my first dog. I wasn’t planning on getting a dog, BUT I went to the local shelter in Indiana with a friend who wanted a puppy and then I saw her. A little brown and white puppy, beaten and bruised, I fell in love! I didn’t realize it at the time, but she would forever change the course of our lives.
She was so beaten and fearful, I had no choice but to learn about dog behavior and training to save her life. Through lots of time, love and training she became a happy, confident dog who lived to the ripe old age of 16. I fell in love with the working with dogs, especially ones with special needs like Elecktra.
In 1998 I began volunteering with the Larimer Humane Society doing dog behavior and training. I have run behavior help lines, taught classes and done hundreds of hours of one-on-one dog training for the shelter. We have also fostered over a hundred dogs for LHS. At any one time we have had as many as 56 little feet running around our house.
Many of these fosters have made their way into our hearts and never left. Most of our foster flunkies are special needs dogs. Currently we have five flunkies, all with very unique challenges. Sydney, a Great Dane, hound mix, requires the most care and attention. She has what’s called Cerebral Abiotrophy, this is similar to Cerebral Palsy in humans.
Currently I am volunteering in the Vet Services Department prepping animals for surgery and helping them recover after surgery. Jay and I dearly love the devoted staff and volunteers at Larimer Humane Society and wish to continue to support their tireless efforts to help all the animals of Larimer County. This year we will become a business partner to the humane society, sponsoring two of their biggest fundraising event, The Fire Hydrant Five and Top Cat and Tails. Please check out their website www.LarimerHumane.org to find out more information about these events and learn more about this amazing organization that is so near and dear to our hearts.
Please check back in for more information on how you can help us support the Larimer Humane Society as we develop this new relationship to help the animals in our community.
Thank you,
