The Tip Jar- Graduation Celebrations

Wednesday April 20, 2011 // By LaNita McDonald

Spring is the season of change and transition as evidenced by the return of green grass, cherry tree blossoms, and longer, warmer days.   For students about to graduate this is particularly true as they prepare to leave behind everything that is familiar and venture into the next chapter of their life.

This is definitely the time to celebrate new beginnings with family and friends.  Preparations for these celebrations include venue, guest lists, and menus.  For beverages you might consider serving smoothies.  We have had many anxious and eager parents visiting us to talk about setting up a smoothie bar at their son’s or daughter’s grad party.  Great idea rents!  Smoothies are very popular, come in a variety of flavors (mix and match flavors for extra fun), children enjoy them, and adult drinks can be created by adding alcohol.   Smoothies are easy to prepare requiring only smoothie mix, ice, and a blender.

Another great choice for the drink menu is Italian Soda which is also cold, refreshing, and easy to prepare.  All you need is flavored syrup, soda water, and ice.  Instead of lugging all of those many cases of soda water from the store to the party location, consider buying a soda siphon and a box of co2 cartridges to make your own carbonated water.  This method is not only cheaper, but will add ‘WOW’ to your drink prep!

Here is one cocktail recipe using Sweetbird Smoothie mixmargarita

Strawberry Margarita

2 shots Gold Tequila

1 shot Cointreau

1 pump Sweetbird Lime Syrup

2 oz Sweetbird Strawberrry Smoothie

Fill glass three-quarters with ice, add the Cointreau, tequila and syrup. Top with Sweetbird Strawberry smoothie and blend until nice and smooth. Garnish with fresh strawberry and lime wedge.

Here is a basic Italian Soda recipe using Torani Syrup:

1 oz.Torani Raspberry Syrup

8 oz. Sparkling Water

Pour sparkling water into tall glass filled with ice. Add Torani and stir well.

Cheers and Congrats Grads!!
