Coffee Fest Atlanta -- Is Now Gone with the Winners...

Tia, BPS Customer Service Supervisor, and Matthew, Marketing Representative, eagerly awaiting the doors to open.Just over a week ago, Coffee Fest had Atlanta buzzing with café owners and baristas alike looking to show off their skills or find the next breakthrough product to implement on or behind their bar.  Coffee fanatics flew in from all over the US as well as some international competitors representing Japan in the latte art competition. The Cobb Galleria Centre hosted this 3-day specialty coffee gathering and as we arrived Thursday you could almost hear the room humming from the sound of grinders and hissing as milk is being steamed for beautifully poured lattes.  

After a quick set-up of the booth, we were off to the Old Vinings Inn with our reps from Torani for some live music and delicious ‘Southern Seasonal fare in one of Atlanta’s most historic settings.’  This 1880s cottage was the perfect setting, minus the fact that the taller individuals in our party had to be rather vigilant of ceiling fans, for some R&R before Coffee Fest was in full swing.

As Friday rolled in and the show floor was now lined with fully stocked exhibitor booths, attendees were greeted by morning coffee accompanied by smoothies and blended cremés from the DaVinci and Big Train.  After choosing your first beverage to sample, one would almost instinctively follow the crowd over to the opening round of the Coffee Fest Latte Art Championships.  Once the gates opened and the attendees flooded the show floor, you could tell there was a slight sense of bewilderment due to all the enticing options; brilliant colored coffee bags and mugs or freshly ground espresso ready to be sipped from a shiny new demitasse or shot glass.  With all the excitement, the opening day flew by, but you can rest assured the BPS crew were able to snap a quick selfie and walk the dog with a newly minted Coffee Fest 2015 yo-yo!  With one day down and two to-go, we decided it was a great opportunity to get some fresh air with a short walk across highway 41 to sample what Stoney River had to offer.  Touting legendary steaks, you know the expectations were high for our gracious hosts from Monin.  However, disappointment is not a word in their vocabulary; with an ever-so-fitting, Coffee Cured Filet Mignon it’s safe to say our every desire was fulfilled. 

The second day of Coffee Fest saw larger crowds and even more excitement as competitors were whittled down to the ‘great 8’ in the Latte Art Competition and the final 3 for America’s Best Coffeehouse.  Let’s not forget the Best Espresso competition as it was in full swing pitting baristas on four of the most cutting edge espresso machines the market has to offer.  Not only do these machines give unbelievably precise readouts and seamless controls for creating the exact extraction you desire; they are quite the site with all of their beautiful LED displays.  After covering as much of the show floor as possible, the crowds were drawn outside by the beautiful weather and hubbub of Atlanta nightlife consisting of a Hawks game or quite the list of comedians and entertainers hitting the main stage.  

The BPS crew opted for some BBQ, because how could you head south and not indulge in some glorious smoked meats and hearty sides?  Needless to say, Twin Smokers BBQ was our primary destination as we ventured into downtown Atlanta.  After a generous supply of barbeque and some exceptionally entertaining yet attentive service, we could genuinely say we had found what were looking for.

At Coffee Fest, Sundays are always a bittersweet day.  Although they mark the precipice of competition before everyone eagerly awaits the announcement of the show’s winners, it also stands as the last day of such a great event for discovering new flavors and processes as well as unmatched opportunities for networking.  Sunday is also the last day for attendees to pick up a BPS schwag bag and enter into our show raffle. That’s all said and done now, so how about some announcements of the big winners at Coffee Fest Atlanta?!?
