The Tip Jar - Whipped Cream Basics
Tuesday February 24, 2015 // By Landon Christensen
We’ve received several customer questions lately about how to make whipped cream with the iSi whipped cream dispenser. With the help of Tia Peck we’ve put together a quick instructional video which can be found here. The process is fairly simple, a quick rundown of the steps is listed below. There are a few things I would like to point out. One, we do offer a pint and a quart sized dispenser. The preparation is identical except for the fact that the quart will need more cream and it will use two chargers instead of just one. Also, please ensure that you are using a N2O cream charger and not a CO2 soda charger, trust us - carbonated cream is a poor idea.
-
First, ensure that all the necessary parts are accounted for. The container, lid, mixing valve, dispensing tip, head gasket, charger holder, and a cream charger. Everything you need is included with the iSi Cream Profi except the cream chargers - those must be purchased separately.
-
Assemble all of the necessary components. Insert the mixing valve into the lid. Screw on the dispensing tip. Firmly seat the gasket around the inner edge of the lid.
-
*OPTIONAL* If you would like flavored whipped cream, now is the time to add your choice of flavoring. Add 5 ounces of your favorite sauce or syrup for the pint-sized dispenser or 10 ounces for the quart. Vanilla is a great starting point if you are unsure what to use.
-
Fill up the container with heavy whipping cream to the max fill line for a light fluffy whipped cream. If you will be putting this on hot drinks, it is advised to fill past the line to make a heavy, dense whipped cream that will hold up better to the temperatures of hot beverages.
-
Firmly screw the lid on to the container.
-
If you added flavoring shake the container to thoroughly mix the sauce or syrup with the cream.
-
Drop a whipped cream charger into the holder and screw it on to the puncture pin. Turn until you hear the contents release into the container.
-
Once the air is released shake the container until you feel the cream thickening and becoming heavier.
-
Test the whipped cream by tipping the container upside down and gently squeeze the lever into the sink or an empty cup. If it has a good flavor and consistency, you’re ready to go!
If it ends up being runny or under-whipped the following may have happened:
-
It may not have been shaken long enough. Try shaking it a while longer to integrate everything together.
-
You may have lost air pressure due to a bad seal; also, the head gasket or the lid may not have been tight enough. Ensure everything is as tight as possible before charging.
-
If all else fails, there is a possibility that you may have a bad charger. This would be apparent if there was no sound when you fully twisted the cartridge onto the puncture pin.
Whipped cream is a great add-on for drinks, consider adding a small surcharge to drinks that have whipped cream. Even an extra $.50 can boost sales. To order equipment from iSi please click here.
