Food Safety, SDS, and OSHA
While you may not plan on serving food along with your lattes and frappes, you still need to be familiar with the Federal Food Code and the ways that your state has adopted its regulations. Some states may have more stringent requirements than even the Federal Food Code. You will need to abide by the stricter of the two.
Below are links to the Federal Food Code, recent changes, a handful of useful forms, SDS forms and new businesses information from OSHA.
The IRS & Small Business Association
We encourage you to research IRS regulation before you open. Knowing the requirements in advance, will help you avoid any nasty surprises down the road. Depending on your location, you will need to collect federal, state, county and city sales taxes. In addition, you will need to set money aside to cover the other taxes associated with simply owning a business. The Small Business Assoctiation also has some great information to help you get your coffee shop up and running. Here are the resources we recommend:
SCA & BGA
