Dennis StarbuckMeet: Dennis Starbuck | Customer Service Barista

How long have you worked for BPS and in what capacity?

I have been with BPS for the last four months now as a Customer Service Barista.

Where did you grow up?  Where did you go to school?

I grew up all over Southern California's LA and surrounding areas. I received my AA degree from Front Range Community College here in Northern Colorado.

What do you like most about your job or about BPS?

I love the “everyone is family” dynamic that can’t help but to spill over into our customer service. Everyone here is so friendly, supportive and fun to work with; not to mention there is so much opportunity to branch out and explore the many different facets of the coffee industry.

What’s your favorite type of music? Do you have a favorite band or artist?

I am a music teacher, so I can generally find something to appreciate in every genre of music I have come across thus far; I do usually find more enjoyment out of listening to “Virtuosos”. For example, my favorite composers are Franz Liszt and Niccolo Paganini, but I also love The Rat Pack, Wordsmith and producer Aesop Rock as well as bands like Slipknot and Meshuggah.

Dennis - Scuba DivingDo you have any unique hobbies, talents or experiences that you would like to share?

Along with being a music teacher, I am a Master Diver and dive guide professional on the way to being a scuba instructor; Additionally, I work at High Plains Scuba in Fort Collins on the weekends. I also served in the Army stateside and overseasI went through Diesel Engineering & Ordinance training, Airborne training (where I learned to jump out of airplanes and helicopters) and Armorer school (where I learned about all the Army’s different hand held weapons). I even got to learn extreme water survival from a retired Underwater Demolitions Tech in S. Korea while working side by side with the S. Korean (ROK) Army.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

When I’m not working at BPS, teaching & playing music, or scuba diving, I like to do things such as the following: read hardback books, listen to vinyl, brew beer and spirits, play video and board games with friends, ride motorcycles, camp, travel, and work on vehicles. (Just to name a few!)

Family? Kids? Pets?

I have family scattered around the U.S. with some more scattered family “across the pond” in Europe and Australia.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you be and why?

I would probably pick the ABC or Turks and Caicos islands. Somewhere I could open a dive shop, enjoy paradise and just worry about where to dive next for the rest of my life. Well, that and whether to get a rum runner or bahama mama on the next go...

What products would you recommend from the BPS catalog and why?

I really like our bakery items, especially the Triple Chocolate Chip Crème Cake Muffin(s). I also really enjoy our cold brew selections for home brewing; my favorite is the Toddy Cold-Brewed Coffee System - Consumer Model. I don’t really like to go anywhere to get coffee when I have everything I need to make a great cup of coffee at home, so it’s nice for BPS to provide such an easy at home remedy for people like me who prefer to be in charge of their cup of coffee.
